For over 25 years, this grass-roots, multi-service charity has provided programs and services for 24,000 children, seniors and families who live in the towns, villages and hamlets that make up this rural area.

Fill Up Your Tank Year-long Raffle - Tickets On Sale NowTickets are now on sale for the 2012 Fill Up Your Tanks Raffle. There are monthly chances to win $500 ($250 in gas gift cards and $250 in grocery gift cards), plus weekly bonus draws for $25 coffee gift cards. Draws start in February and names are put back into the hat for all the draws through to next December. Get your ticket now at an EWCS office or the New to You Stores in Rockwood, Erin or Hillsburgh. Funding from the Bedolfe Foundation & the Farm Credit Canada AgriSpirit Award will be added to that already raised. The Board of Directors is currently exploring the size and type of bus needed to replace the current bus, which was affectionately called the EWAG'n. Introducing the New Executive DirectorNancy Henry comes to EWCS with a strong background in community services, gerontology, adult education, volunteerism, and management. She is a long time resident of Caledon. The staff and board members are pleased to have this long-vacant position filled and extremely pleased to have Nancy on board. Please join us in welcoming her. Supervision is provided by caring and dedicated staff and volunteers sensitive to the needs and abilities of seniors. A nutritious hot lunch is provided.Favourite activities include: bingo, crafts, games, exercises, painting, guest speakers, intergenerational programs and outings into the community. The wheelchair accessible EWCS bus will pick up seniors at their doorstop and see each one safely home again. As an Ontario Early Years satellite centre, EWCS offers a wide variety of FREE programs to enrich your parenting skills, stimulate your childs development and creativity and provide an opportunity to meet and mingle with other parents. EWCS runs three thrift clothing stores and one used book store. These are managed by the part-time Retail Coordinator, Sandra Paolucci. All of the items in our stores have been donated. We welcome your donations of clean and gently used clothing. Items can be dropped at any of our store locations. Unfortunately we cannot accept: bedding, furniture, electronics, stuffed animals or other housewares.

Volunteers

Volunteers are the heart & soul of East Wellington Community Services. Every program of EWCS relies on volunteers for its operation. We believe that everyone has a skill or talent that would be beneficial to our charity. We need your help. Occasionally we have opportunities for high school students looking to fill their volunteer hours and for larger groups looking to volunteer together. Please contact us to discuss your interest in volunteering. Thrift StoresVolunteers run our four thrift stores- clothing stores in Erin, Rockwood and Hillsburgh as well as the bookstore in Erin. Volunteers maintain the stores by acting as cashiers and sorting donations. We welcoem volunteers' ideas and enthusiasim in running the store.DriversVolunteers drivers take clients to medical and therapeutic appointments across Wellington County, and as far as to Toronto. Volunteers can use their own vehicles or drive our mini-van. Mileage is reimbursed for your own car.Food BankA lot of heavy cans and boxes come in and out of our two food banks. Volunteers help carry and sort donations as well as packing hampers for food bank clients. Sometimes volunteers pick up food donations in the community.We also appreciate anyone who volunteers to run a food drive with their friends, coworkers, church groups or sports teams.
Seniors Day ProgramOur day program provides care and support for frail seniors and those with dementias. Volunteers assist the staff on the floor with all aspects of the Day Program. This would include assisting with crafts, meals, activities, outings, etc.Home AssuranceThis is a volunteer-based program to reach out to isolated seniors. Volunteers make personal visits to seniors homes on a regular basis just to "check in". We also have a Telephone Assurance program.Front DeskOur reception desk in Erin is entirely staffed by volunteers. Shifts are half days for 3.5 hours. Front Desk Volunteers answer questions from the public and answer the phones.Special EventsEWCS holds a variety of special events and fundraiser throughout the year. We need volunteers to help on the planning committees in advance and to work at the events.

The benefits of giving a donation to EWCS are countless; from helping neighbours who find themselves in crisis, to the personal satisfaction you feel when you help out a cause you are passionate about . What really adds value is knowing your gift stays right here in your community. EWCS is a frugal, grass roots charity that carefully manages every gift. Out of every dollar donated, more than 80 cents goes directly into programs and services.You can donate online through CanadaHelps.org Donations can also be mailed or dropped off to our Erin location. So Many of EWCS's programs and services rely on the generosity of local people. Below are lists of the items that are always needed in our programs. Most items can be dropped off directly at our offices in Erin or Rockwood. We do not have the facility to store these items nor can we guarantee that someone will be able to pick them up. Auto AngelsIn partnership with Erin Auto Wreckers, EWCS has implemented the Auto Angels program. Turn in your old car and Erin Auto Wreckers will donate the money to EWCS. You will receieve a tax receipt.Bottles Feed FamiliesBring your empty beer, wine & liquor bottles into the Erin office. Volunteers bring them back to the Beer Store for the refund. All proceeds benefit the Food Bank.Organize your own Food DriveSupporting EWCS can be worked into so many different events. Ask guests to bring food bank items to your next birthday party. Include collecting canned goods as part of your monthly book club. Get together with your school group, sports team or church and hold a food drive.
